The Synthetic Ensemble
Every other speaking character appearing throughout Way of the Jaded Fist is performed using text-to-speech.
TTS is an extensive part of the show’s ensemble rather than an occasional background effect. Synthetic voices portray major, recurring, supporting, and guest characters throughout the series. These voices are selected for characters, directed through the writing and performance process, and edited into the finished production alongside the show’s human performances.
Human Performance + Voice Processing
Voice processing is not categorized as text-to-speech. When a human performer records a role and that recording is subsequently altered for characterization, the underlying performance remains human.
Blaine Fountaine is performed by Desmond Childs with digital voice processing. Captain Marta Rose is performed by JazzyNay in Things We Bury I with digital voice processing.
