Episode 2 – Matchmaker Mei

Read the episode transcript

While Danny Rose vanishes into the Rift, catching rides with fishermen and traders on the long path to the Connecting Forest, he finds himself sparring—not with fists, but with words. A quiet moment on the deck of a rocking boat leads to conversation with another martial artist. The two exchange philosophies. Danny speaks fluently on the Fist of Jade and Steel—the martial form he still knows by heart—and the deeper beliefs behind the Way of the Jaded Fist.

Back in Harbortown, his niece Mei is holding it down. Kind of.

With her uncle gone and Kai-Lung keeping to himself upstairs, retracted from public view after an incident no one dares name, Mei grabs hold of something she can fix: love.

She sets her sights on Lin and Kenji, two bashful townsfolk clearly into each other but too awkward to make a move—and too weighed down by what other people might think. Kenji’s father doesn’t approve of Lin, seeing her as too plain, too local, too beneath his son. So Mei—naturally—goes undercover.

She disguises herself as a regal, flirty noblewoman passing through the village. Her mission? Convince Kenji’s father that “fancy women like me only date foreign merchants with titles and tempers”—hoping he’ll see Lin with new eyes.

Meanwhile, Mei quietly brews a new tea blend behind the counter. She hasn’t told anyone, but she’s planning to enter the upcoming tea competition, hoping the prize money might pay for outside magical help for Kai-Lung.
